 Anthony Habgood 

Overview

Anthony Habgood is Chairman of Reed Elsevier and Whitbread.

A graduate in economics from Cambridge University with  an MS in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University, he joined Boston Consulting Group in 1970 and became a Director in 1977.   Having worked in Boston, Tokyo, Munich and London he became Managing Partner of BCG Ltd in London and a member of the Executive Committee of BCG Inc from 1981-1986.  He joined Tootal Group plc in 1986 becoming Chief Executive in 1991.  He became Chief Executive of Bunzl plc in 1991 subsequently becoming Chairman in 1996 and non-executive Chairman from 2005-2009. He was appointed non-executive Chairman of Whitbread plc in 2005 and of Reed Elsevier plc and Reed Elsevier NV in 2009.  His other appointments incldue Chairman of Preqin Ltd and Senior Independent Director of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Trust . 

Past non-executive directorships include Geest plc (89-93), NatWest Bank plc (98-00), Powergen plc (93-01), Marks and Spencer plc (04-05) and SVG Capital plc (1996-2009).  He was also non-executive Chairman of Mölnlycke Health Care Ltd (06-07) while it was owned by the private equity house APAX Partners.  In 2006 he was the winner of the Daily Telegraph Award for a Decade of Business Excellence at the National Business Awards.
