Overview

Oliver Stocken is Chairman of Home Retail Group,  Chairman of Oval Limited, Chairman of Stanhope Group Holdings Limited and non-executive director of Standard Chartered plc.

Before joining Barclays Merchant Bank in 1979 as head of the Corporate Finance Division, he worked for Arthur Andersen and later with N M Rothschild as a Director in Corporate Finance.
 
In 1982 he became Managing Director of Barclays Australia and returned to London in 1984 as Managing Director of Barclays Merchant Bank.  He joined the board of BZW Holdings at its inception in 1986 becoming Chief Operating Officer in 1990 and then Finance Director. In May 1993 he was appointed Group Finance Director, Barclays plc, finishing this role in September 1999.

He is Chairman of Trustees of the Natural History Museum; Chairman of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC); Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Garrick Club; Governor of Felsted School and a member of the Design London Advisory Board.

He was educated at Felsted and University College, Oxford.
