The University of Oxford Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) Division and the Oxford Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation have launched a joint programme called Science Innovation Plus (SIP) providing training for graduate research students and post-docs/research fellows in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.
The purpose is to enable participants to develop the necessary skills to understand how to approach the commercialisation of their research and to assess its economic and societal impact, providing access to management and marketing expertise to develop innovations.
Science Innovation Plus consists of two parts:
-
attending the Building a Business course: a weekly evening lecture with a focus on basic business skills and technological enterprise.
- participating fully in the Saïd Business School MBA course Technology and Innovation Strategy, studying with faculty and working alongside MBA students. Science Innovation Plus participants attend classes and participate in practical work and project assignments for the course.
There is no formal examination but upon completions of the Technology and Innovation Strategy course participants will be asked to write a paper covering some or all of these areas: the potential commercialisation of your research, its impact on the economy and/or society, the potential for research dissemination, and other aspects of Knowledge Transfer.
