How do entrepreneurs make decisions?

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
An
Interactive online study on entrepreneurial decision making

One-hour online sessions on 21st and 23rd June 2011

Background: Why are we studying entrepreneurial decision making?
Decision making is at the heart of any entrepreneurial activity. Entrepreneurs need to make effective decisions, seeking out and distilling relevant information under time pressure, competition and uncertainty about future developments. Understanding how entrepreneurs actually deal with these conditions, and which strategies they have developed to successfully manage them, enables us to better support new entrepreneurs as they enter this process.

Online Experiments: What is involved?
Decision making can be best understood by studying how entrepreneurs actually make decisions. Therefore we will conduct online experiments in which pairs of volunteers are matched to interact in a number of decision scenarios that simulate entrepreneurship specific situations. Participants will be interacting in real-time via our online platform.

To participate you will need to commit one-hour at an allocated time, and you will need access to the internet. Participants will be asked to log on remotely via a URL link, it is imperative that participants log on at their exact allotted time so that they are online at the same time as the other participants for the experiment. The identity of each participant will be kept strictly anonymous.

Why should you participate?
With your participation you can contribute to the progress of important research that will help to support teaching and support for established and future entrepreneurs. At the end of the experiment, you will receive individual feedback on the decisions that you made. Participants often report that this stimulated them to think about the decisions they make from a different perspective and was very valuable to them.

This is an opportunity for you to be involved in on-going research in the area of entrepreneurship. All participants will have the opportunity to get feedback on their performance in the experiments, and will see how well they did in comparison to other participants. We will also keep you informed about further research being carried out by our Centre.
