Overview

Paul Chapman has BEng (Hons), MSc and Engineering Doctorate (EngD) degrees from the University of Warwick. Before joining Oxford he was a Senior Research Fellow at Cranfield School of Management and previously in the Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick. Paul teaches at Copenhagen Business School, where he has twice been elected teacher of year on the Executive MBA.

Paul’s work in the automotive, aerospace and retail sectors has led to significant reductions in new product development time; introducing DFx concepts into product design; increased supply chain responsiveness and reducing waste and loss. In Europe’s grocery retail sector this work has delivered more than US$1billion in savings in recent years. This means that Paul has a track record of working closely with practitioner organisations to understand their potential for development and to realise these opportunities. Paul applies this capability as a consultant for a range of organisations across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa.

Research interests:

Paul’s research is focussed on mechanisms for benefit delivery, especially the role of collaboration. This takes concepts at the heart of operations management, especially engineering and production, and blends these with other insights. This includes researching the mega project phenomena, for example on the EPSRC funded ‘Super Value Goods Initiative’ and through managing projects in the aerospace sector, including at Airbus, Rolls-Royce and British Airways. He has also worked internationally researching logistics and supply chain management, which means he has a broad understanding of the major programme management field.
